Q&A with CWA Designer, Chris Nobbs
At CWA, we love celebrating important milestones and this month, we’re shining the light on our fantastic Designer, Chris Nobbs, who has now been with the agency for a decade.
From fiery first days to mastering the art of tamper-proof desk habits, Chris has seen and done it all. We sat down with him for a quick Q&A to reflect on his time with the agency so far...
What initially attracted you to come and work at CWA?
I came here through a recruitment agency, having worked at my previous company for more than 17 years. I was actually offered two different jobs at the time, but CWA just had that right feeling—a bit like when you’re buying a house and you just know it’s the right move!
What do you remember about your first day?
I remember having to read through a pile of ISMS policies on my first day. Not the most exciting start, but it’s crucial stuff, our accreditation is a big part of what we do. Oh, and in my first week, I had to do the chilli challenge. A sadly now-defunct initiation ceremony involving a teaspoonful of the most fiery sauce we could find. Let’s just say, it was memorable – maybe we should bring it back!
What have been some of the standout moments from your decade with the company?
It’s the little ‘extras’ that really stick with me. Things like when we ‘rowed the Channel’ on a rowing machine for charity or our Bake Off contests. Those moments really capture the fantastic spirit of the CWA team.
What’s the biggest change you’ve seen in the agency during your time here?
Things are always evolving, so you’re constantly adapting to an ever-shifting environment. Right now, the rapid pace of change AI is bringing in is huge. It’s potentially permeating into so many aspects of our business—we’ve had to get to grips with it, and the pace of development is astonishing.
What’s the campaign you’ve enjoyed working on the most during those years?
For me, it’s got to be the events. We certainly know how to put on a good one! They bring the whole agency together—design, digital, video, social, PR—you name it. Plus, there’s nothing quite like the buzz of a live event.
What important lessons have you learnt?
Never leave anything on your desk that you’re not prepared for your colleagues to tamper with!
What does the future hold for you?
Hell knows! The future’s full of possibilities.
Any advice for someone just joining the industry?
Be prepared to constantly learn from everything and everyone around you. Also if you can become an expert in a special or niche skill, you could be onto a winner.
Here’s to Chris and his ten years of hard work, laughs and chilli sauce bravery. Here’s to the next decade of special memories at CWA!
